Delhi University - Course on Relationship, Love & Breakup

Have you ever thought of a chapter on Love and Heartbreak in your curriculum? Or get marks for solving relationship issues? Sounds strange, right?

Delhi University is rolling out a brand-new elective called Negotiating Intimate Relationships – a legit classroom course on dating, love, break-ups, boundary setting, and every mess between partners. The course is set to roll out in the academic year 2025-26.

Most people, especially in the age group of 18 to 25 years, don’t know how to deal with emotional baggage. The course teaches students how to deal when they’re ghosted, or their heart feels heavy with emotional baggage. There are modules on the psychology of attraction, jealousy, and emotional bonding. The students at Delhi University got a chance to get a deep dive into the science and pop culture of romance, even film reviews of Titanic and Kabir Singh.

Gen Z’s Thoughts on the Course

The generation gap between Millennials and Gen Z is vast, and so are their perspective and ways to deal with the situation. The new generation easily catches FOMO, and for them, handling relationships is tough.

“It’s tougher to handle relationships in our generation. There’s a dating apps, social media drama….. it gets overwhelming. A course like this could actually help us understand what we are feeling and why”

By Vanya Gupta, CUET Candidate eyeing Psychology (Hons.) (HT Media)

“Already catching FOMO, I so wish this course had come a year earlier. Learning how to navigate relationships properly is a life skill. But I am graduating, so tough luck for me.”

By Aditya Tiwari, a Final-Year Psychology Student at Aryabhatta College (HT Media)

“Making this a full-blown academic course just adds pressure. People will probably cram from guides the night before the exam like it’s any other subject. Maybe focus on having trained therapists on campus instead?”

By Anushka Dasgupta, a Final-Year Law Student (HT Media)

What do Netizens think about the Relationship Course?

Netizens buzz the internet with mixed reviews on the upcoming DU Course on Negotiating Intimate Relationships. Let’s read what they think about the course.

  • Why don’t they just call it “Iss pyaar ko kya naam DU?” – Insta Id: tathaaaastu
  • Sounds like  a much-needed life manual for navigating the messy waters of love and relationships – kind of like a survival guide for the emotional jungle. Wonder if they’ll cover how to spot the red flags faster than a Tinder match! – Insta Id: katieoldridge591
  • Much needed, as we are moving towards a society where people are becoming lonely more and more, ultimately a depressed society. – Insta Id: divyani_advika_tales
  • My question is who is gonna teach these subjects so frankly in any of the DU colleges??? Every teachers starts judging a couple if they r caught holding hands or xyz, like howwww???? – Insta Id: nyonika_mathur

Experts’ View on DU Course

The psychologists and experts welcome the Negotiating Intimate Relationships course proposed by Delhi University.

“This is progressive and much needed step. Young adults often struggle with communication, boundaries, and emotional awareness. Teaching emotional intelligence and healthy relationship patterns early on can support not just better partnerships, but also mental well-being. So yes, while love can’t be taught entirely in a classroom, at least DU’s trying.”

By Shivani Misri Sadhoo, Psychologist and Relationship Expert

Conclusion

With the change of generation, the parents change their parenting style. Schools imposed boundaries, and teachers changed their learning methods and communications with students. Now we can see that the change begins from home, and then school, so it’s high time to roll out new courses. The curriculum of universities requires life courses to make society better. Change begins from Vidyalaya itself to make society better.
